Treatment for Emotional Eating

Do you eat for reasons other than hunger?

You may be a engaged in 'Emotional Eating'

Compulsive eating, overeating, night eating, and binging
Bulimia
Anorexia

Compulsive Eating, Overeating, Night Eating, and Binging are all types of emotionally-based eating problems. When your emotions affect your eating patterns, you may struggle to control your weight through difficult diets. This can lead to feelings of hopelessness and deprivation and may cause the body to hold onto the weight. Eating problems like this are often due to old learned eating patterns that no longer work for us as adults, and are worsened by low self-esteem and stressful life circumstances. What works better for long-term weight management and control of emotional eating is a different approach: a life style change.

People frequently call me to ask for hypnosis for weight loss, and ask “How long does it take?” Weight and eating problems may have developed over a lifetime. It is important for us to take an extensive assessment in order to make a long term plan for a lifestyle change. Some people may learn as children to turn to food to comfort themselves and to fill up the empty places inside. These clients can learn new skills to overcome old approaches to loneliness, sadness, anger and other uncomfortable feelings.

Clients who are motivated to make a change may benefit from a commitment to:

  • a nutritional assessment with recommendations from a respected nutritionist
  • an exercise plan
  • hypnosis and psychotherapy for relaxation, motivation and habit control
  • Heart-Centered hypnotherapy for healing of trauma and codependency issues

Clients who come to me for treatment of Bulimia and/or Anorexia generally need a treatment team, as they struggle with a different aspect of emotional eating, but benefit from many of the same treatments, including the nutritional assessment and follow-up, and the psychotherapy and Heart-Centered Hypnotherapy.

I look forward to working with you.
